Omar Sakr

Omar Sakr is an award-winning Arab Australian poet, the son of Lebanese and Turkish Muslim migrants. His debut collection, These Wild Houses (Cordite, 2017) was shortlisted for the Judith Wright Calanthe Award and the Kenneth Slessor Prize. His new book, The Lost Arabs (UQP, 2019), has been shortlisted for the Queensland Literary Awards, the NSW Premier’s Literary Awards and the John Bray Poetry Award. It has also been released internationally through Andrews McMeel. He has won the 2019 Edward Stanley Award for Poetry and the 2020 Woollahra Digital Literary Prize for Poetry. His latest short fiction has appeared in Kindred: 12 Queer YA Stories (2019, Walker Books) and in After Australia (2020, Affirm Press). He is working on his debut novel, White Flu.
