Mardi O’Connor worked as an editor in non-fiction magazine and book publishing before quitting the industry, in response to poor pay and conditions, to pursue a law degree. After working as a corporate writer in Canada for several years, she found her calling as an industrial officer for the Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance (MEAA). Now lapsed as a creative writer, Mardi has had short fiction and creative non-fiction published in local and international literary journals. Her industrial advice to emerging writers (and to all in-house or freelance workers) is: unionise and bargain collectively. Her creative advice is: don’t lapse.
